Pet-of-the-Week
Thelma is a two-three year old, female Great Pyrenees/Golden Retriever mix who is about 90 lbs and came to us as a stray no one ever claimed. She loves everyone, is great with dogs and cats, seems to be housetrained but will need a good fence to keep her home safe.

And the ten winners who elected to get $1000 each from our first “Gettin’ Down with the Dawgs” Drawdown are: Russell Chaffman, Christopher Lanier, Jacquelyn Blackwell, Linda Hill, Renee Avesy, Julia Crotty, Susan Lanier, James Deavers, Rescue K911 & Donnie McAnnally! As it got closer and closer, once we hit these last ten contenders they all got together and decided that $1000 in the hand was better than waiting to see if they just might win the entire $10,000!

The weather certainly challenged two great events this weekend, but our staff and volunteers had a great time at both the AUM “Find a Friend” Adoption Day and the Millbrook Possum Festival. Many thanks to the AUM American Humanics Department and the Millbrook Theatre for inviting us to these great events and to everyone who helped us out: Tink Lucy-Bouler; Wendy, Chloe & Bryndie Kidd; Anna Adams; Meagan Lemacks; Ellen Fallon; Jan Darby; Jennifer Tritz; Claudia Rigsby; Courtney Dasinger; Tracey & Kyra Nichols; Katherine Cooper; Kathleen Nall; and Lindsey Terry.

It was another super Supply Drive thanks to all of the supportive shoppers at the Millbrook Wal-Mart this past Saturday. Not only did we receive a wonderful amount of donated supplies, but we also received $425 in cash donations! So many, many thanks to all who supported us and to Bonnie Jones, Sheron Milton, Angie Melton , Kathryn Katechis & daughter, Cheryl Phillips, Amy Hall & Sharon Neely who volunteered their time to help make this such a success.

We may still be basking in the glow of success from our auction but we are also looking ahead for our next big event – Bark in the Park 2009! Bark in the Park will be on Sunday, 27 September starting at 1 pm and we anticipate another huge crowd at Ft. Toulouse . This is a great way to spend an afternoon with fellow pet lovers and with your pet. You can look forward to another day of great food, music, vendors with a wide assortment of wares, contests for pets and their owners alike, the too-cool cars from the Capital City Street Rod Association, a micro-chip clinic to help protect your pet and so much more.
